The World Wide Web (WWW or Web) was invented by British computer scientist Sir Tim Berners-Lee in 1989 while he was working at CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research. Berners-Lee developed the Web as a way to share scientific information between researchers at different locations, and his vision was to create a system that could be used by anyone, anywhere in the world, to access and share information. He is widely regarded as the inventor of the Web and has been honored with numerous awards and accolades for his contributions to the field of computer science.
